Edaville Railroad

This past weekend was a little crazy in our house. Seth was sick and while I really should have been resting myself there were things that needed to be done and the kids don’t slow down for under the weather parents. Plus if the kids were out of the house then that meant that Seth could get the rest that he needed. Which only worked so much and he ended up just going to the hospital to find out that he had strep. Once he had the meds that he needed he started to feel better on Sunday.

Saturday Aiden had soccer practice so I had to figure out how to manage to help him retain what the coach was teaching and keep Rebecca entertained as well. Aiden was really understanding of the fact that I was limited on what I could help him with and Rebecca did pretty well. The last half of practice she was pretty content to sit in the stroller with a snack. Afterwards we grabbed some lunch from Dunks. Aiden wanted and egg and cheese wrap so Rebecca ate one as well. What brother has, she wants too. Once home they both went up for naps. Well Rebecca napped and I was supposed to be catching up some blog posts and resting a bit as well. Aiden he had other plans and we ended up not napping even though he was tired. 

So battling myself with the nap notion. I wanted Rebecca to nap for as long as possible, but I had also told Aiden that we would go to the touch-a-truck show that was in Hanover. I’ve been trying to take him to one of these stupid things for the better part of a year and so far no dice. We either have something already planned for that day or its right in the middle of naptime. Either way something is always a hindrance and we haven’t gone. And yet again we left later then I wanted to because I knew that Rebecca needed to nap. I was not about to drive 30-45mins to a car show to only be able to stay for 30mins so I had to break the news to Aiden that we would not make it to the show. So I made the quick decision to head to Edaville Railroad instead. They have the train ride and other kid rides as well. He had a blast there and since the last time that we were there, some new rides were added. Sunday was a better day.

Friday Fun

So this didn't exactly take place on Friday. More like Labor Day, but good enough. We had a relaxing day after the busyness of the past 2 days. The Davis Farmland post will be coming soon. But Monday was all about errands and doing some much needed things around the house. Like laundry. We bought Aiden his first pair of soccer cleats. Hit up Old Navy for some new jeans for Seth and then it was off of Toys R Us because the car ramp that Aiden had gotten for his birthday up and died after only an hour of using it so while we waited until we got the receipt from Seth's parents we just went out to buy a new one until we could return the old one. And we also made a pit stop at the mall play area so the kids could blow off some steam as well.

Off to the Fair

This weekend we went to the Marshfield Fair. It was crazy busy. I’m pretty sure that the fact that it was opening weekend and a beautiful one to boot weather-wise brought everyone out for a good time. This year was much better than last year. Last year Rebecca was only 6mos old so there was not much for her to do and also if I remember correctly it was hotter as well. This year she was able to go on a few rides and I didn’t realize that there were 2 more rides that she could have gone on, but she still had fun going on the carousel. She was mad that she couldn’t go on the car ride with Aiden which was the same exact car ride that she went on at the Southwick Zoo. Different places different rules.  I was going to take her on the train ride until she threw a fit about waiting in line so that was the end of that. She enjoyed playing her first carnival game though, picking up the ducks in the pool. Aiden’s favorite ride was the giant slide that you sit on the potato sacks. I’ll admit that as a child that was one of my favorite rides and I could do that one over and over again, but somehow now that I’m older I wasn’t so sure about the ride once we got to the top. However, if it wasn’t a long line I would have gone down it again with him if we could. Both kids had a lot of fun, but alas we had to call it a night. Rebecca was starting to get cranky since it was getting late and of course Aiden was bouncing off the walls from a sugar rush from ice cream we bought on the way out.

Southwick Zoo 2012

Last Sunday I met up with a fellow mom, Melissa for a small play date at the Southwick Zoo in Mendon, MA. We had been trying to coordinate a playdate/get together for a while and something always seemed to come up. Originally we were going to go to the Roger Williams Zoo, but then Melissa mentioned Southwick because of the rides. I was on board with that and the kids both love rides. We ended up getting there a little earlier so we walked around and looked at a few of the animals to kill time, but it was pretty hot and a little humid, plus since I got fried at the beach I was doubly hot from the heat coming off my burnt back. The mist tents were my friend that day. Aiden loved walking through those and I ran through a few times with Rebecca.

I took Aiden into the petty area where you can feed some goats and last year he had a lot of fun doing it, but this year he was a little hesitant because the goats where pretty in your face about trying to get the food. Once I gave Aiden some food he would throw it on the ground so they would leave him alone. So much for that photo op, but in his defense they were all over me as well. Some were trying to stand up on me to get the food so I know that it they did that to Aiden then he would have been on his butt on the ground. It’s funny how a year ago he was more adventurous and this year he is starting to realize that certain things can actually hurt you.

After the goats we played at the playground there for a little bit so we could sit and rest in the shade and just waited until Melissa and her family got to the park. Once I got her text we headed towards the front and ended up just heading over to the rides. Aiden and Rebecca both had a blast on the rides. There were a couple of rides that she and Zane wanted to go on, but they were too small so we mainly just suck around the rides that they could go on and let them do those ones a few times in a row. Aiden and Hayley had fun running back and forth between a few rides. There was also a bouncy house that Aiden didn’t want to get out of.  We did that for a while before getting lunch and calling it a day because Rebecca was just done. It was 2:30. She had been up since 8:30am and was rearing to go for a nap. I think she fell asleep before we even got out of the parking lot. Aiden stayed up the whole ride home, but ended up napping for about 1.5hrs. It was nice. Seth and I took a small snooze as well on the couch since it had been such a busy weekend. I almost wished that we had a third day off just to recoup from the weekend. Next weekend we have our niece’s birthday party in the afternoon and luckily we don’t have anything planned for Sunday. We need a down day.
