Apple Picking 2012

Saturday we finally went apple picking. I was excited to go because I love going every year. Yes I may whine a little in this post like a little kid, and yes I know that you can’t get everything you want in life, but you can come damn close if you try hard enough.  Either way, the weather was great. I still don’t envision apple picking in shorts and a tee shirt, but I’ll take it. Of course we get about 10mins into picking and my battery dies on my camera. That was my own fault for not making sure that it was charged beforehand. The one thing that I did like was that there were different apples to pick because we ended up coming later in the season. However since we thought that most of the apples we normally pick were gone we didn’t walk down the main aisle and I missed all the Cortland apples that I love to eat and cook with. They still had loads of those on the trees. Seth did get a bunch of honey crisp. I was able to pick my favorite- Granny Smith.  And we did get a few called Golden Russett. I guess it’s a very old variety of apple and they are supposed to be really good for cooking because they start out really firm.

There was a little fall festival going on so we stopped over to the other side of the orchard and Aiden was all excited to go on some of the bouncy house. We sent Rebecca into one of them and she did stay in for a little bit, but in the end she came out half way through her time because there were just too many kids in there for her and they don’t pay attention. They just jump around. We picked our pumpkins and called it a day. Next year I may just get smaller bags and go twice that season to get different types of apples.

These apple looking little little golden nuggets and are kind of fuzzy as well. They taste pretty good.

 So many to pick from.

She was NOT a fan of sitting on the pumpkin.

Halloween Pins

I love Halloween. I love all holidays that I have an excuse to decorate, make awesome food and create fun crafts. Here are a few of the things that I want to try out for Halloween. I’m pretty confident that they will come out decently, but I will let you know in the end.

Clockwise from top left- Glitter Pumpkins, Witch hat cupcakes, Glitter spider webs, popcorn hands            (though I will probably use Cheerios or puffs for these), Spider Lollipops, Glow-in-the-dark Cupcakes.

Fall Pins

,
With fall starting up there has been an influx of great fall décor ideas and with that come yummy fall food. That would be mostly desserts. And a lovely article on MSNBC covered the top 10 fall foods that will add to your waistline. A few of them being pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, creamy soups and lasagna. Stuff that gets eaten A LOT over the course of the fall and even into winter.  Here are a few of the things that have caught my eye for me to do this fall.

 Fall Dessert

Happy Birthday Seth!

This year Seth’s birthday fell on Yom Kippur. Not the greatest way to celebrate your birthday by having to fast all day long. Well with him still being on meds for his strep we figured that we would just take a pass this year.  I’m sure that everyone will be understanding. We did manage to get to temple this year. We did not go last year because one of the kids was not feeling the greatest. I think it was Aiden.  They were both great at not being loud and disruptive. Toward the end Rebecca started to get a little unruly, but that was because 1.) she was tired and 2.) it was pretty much her lunch time as well.  In the end they both made it 1:45 of temple. Not a bad day.  We picked up a few things for dinner for later on our way home and in for a nap she went.

About 4pm Seth’s parents and his brother and family came over to break the fast. It was a good time. Good food. The kids played together. Rebecca liked that we put her at the kids table to eat with Aiden and my niece Naomi. She felt like a big girl, but in the end she ended up back in her booster seat sitting at the big table with all of us. She eats better that way, but she’ll learn. I got Seth a carrot from White’s Bakery. I love their cakes. Always so good and very fresh. Moist, never dried out. Seth loves carrot cake so I figured get him a cake that he likes and I’ll pick up something small for the kids to have.  We were also going to have apple pie that his brother made.  It was a long day, but a good day. Here’s to another year.

 Ready for Temple.

 Yummy cake!
 Make a wish!

Playing the elephant game, but we need to exchange it for anew one since the motor is pretty well shot, out of the box.
