Bath Paints

I had given the kids soap bath paints for Christmas and they already blew through those bottle so I was looking on line to see if there was any way of making paints on the cheap. I came across a bunch of ideas and decided to go with the shaving cream one. I'll try others down the line. Its pretty simple a squirt of shaving cream and a few drops of food coloring and boom...paint. Of course the smell of shaving cream does get to you after a while and once they are done you pretty much have to drain the water and refill the tub to actually clean the kids, but they had fun nonetheless.

My First Bike

With Aiden, Seth wanted to get him a bike for Hanukkah after he turned 2. Aiden was excited about the bike, but he was too small for it and didn't really understand the concept for pedaling yet. Plus it was December so there weren't many times that we went out to ride the bike since it was cold and snowy. The summer came and he was slowly getting used to riding and then of course his birthday came and we ended up getting him a power wheels truck. He did finally start riding the bike that September and was excited when he could finally pedal by himself. With that I was not going to make the same mistake with Rebecca so we opted to go the tricycle route with her. I saw that she showed interest in a friends tricycle at a birthday party so I knew that we should get her a trike and then when she was older we would get her a bike. Plus the past few months she's been eying Aiden's bike wondering where hers is. I snagged a Minnie Mouse trike on sale during Christmas and stashed it in the basement until her birthday. When we took it out for her she was over the moon and couldn't wait to ride it. She got pretty mad when we told her that it was time to go in.

Happy 2nd Birthday Rebecca!!

I cannot believe that its been 2 years since the day you were born. Since the day that you made you very speedy entrance in my life. You could have given me a little more warning, though I suspect you think the week of random contractions were a warning.

Fair enough.

You are such a hoot. You laugh. You scowl. You grin. You smile. You scream. We cover our ears.

I can't imagine life without you and I don't want to either. You make our family complete. Today I wish for you another year of learning and growing and exploring new things. So much has changed since you turned one. I can't wait to see what is waiting for us this year.

Jealousy rears it ugly head.

This past weekend we had my college friend Shannon over. She just had her first child this past August and while we had been wanting to get together I knew that as a new mom it may take some time for things to settle into being normal and I didn't want to her to feel rushed that we needed to get together to meet the new little man.

We still have a few things in the basement form when the kids were babies, so I unpacked those and brought them up. Both kids immediately gravitated towards the toys. Their curiosity peaked. I had to explain to them that these were baby toys and that they were for Shannon's little baby. The whole time they were over the kids were great. Well they both napped half the time so that was a bonus, but they were still great with Alex. Seth even made the comment that even though I wanted a boy and then a girl, which is what we ended up with, he had a feeling that Rebecca would make a great big sister. That was until she saw me hold Alex. She got so angry and was grabbing at my leg. The whining started. I, of course, couldn't help but laugh, but when I picked her up she had nothing but the evil eye for Alex.

**You're a little too big for that.**

So after they left Rebecca decided that she was going to crawl into the bouncy seat. Maybe to prove the point that SHE is the baby of this house.

(( And NO holding a brand new squishy baby did not make me want another one. I was perfectly fine to hand him back.))

Apple Picking 2012

Saturday we finally went apple picking. I was excited to go because I love going every year. Yes I may whine a little in this post like a little kid, and yes I know that you can’t get everything you want in life, but you can come damn close if you try hard enough.  Either way, the weather was great. I still don’t envision apple picking in shorts and a tee shirt, but I’ll take it. Of course we get about 10mins into picking and my battery dies on my camera. That was my own fault for not making sure that it was charged beforehand. The one thing that I did like was that there were different apples to pick because we ended up coming later in the season. However since we thought that most of the apples we normally pick were gone we didn’t walk down the main aisle and I missed all the Cortland apples that I love to eat and cook with. They still had loads of those on the trees. Seth did get a bunch of honey crisp. I was able to pick my favorite- Granny Smith.  And we did get a few called Golden Russett. I guess it’s a very old variety of apple and they are supposed to be really good for cooking because they start out really firm.

There was a little fall festival going on so we stopped over to the other side of the orchard and Aiden was all excited to go on some of the bouncy house. We sent Rebecca into one of them and she did stay in for a little bit, but in the end she came out half way through her time because there were just too many kids in there for her and they don’t pay attention. They just jump around. We picked our pumpkins and called it a day. Next year I may just get smaller bags and go twice that season to get different types of apples.

These apple looking little little golden nuggets and are kind of fuzzy as well. They taste pretty good.

 So many to pick from.

She was NOT a fan of sitting on the pumpkin.

Sand Play

Probably one of the last few times that we will be able to play in the sand. I think we have about a month left of decent weather that we’ll be able to use the sand box, which looks pretty small when you add two kids into it. And yes while Rebecca loves to play in the sand she can stand the stuff touching her feet so she threw a nutty until we put her socks back on.

 Peek a boo!!
 "NO SAND ON MY FEET!!!"

 Dumping sand on each other.

Play time was over as soon as they started to dump sand over teach other heads. We need a bigger turtle.
