September Game Play

Somehow I managed to miss August, but since Aiden’s birthday just passed and he received a few games we’re back on track for doing this every month for the rest of the year.

This month’s game is Pop Goes Froggio.

 Froggio!
shuffle your cards and lay them out.
 Set your animal.

 A match!!
 Launch Froggio!!

Basically you try match up the lily pad cards and once you do then you run over and launch Froggio into the air. Rinse and repeat. You're suppose to catch the frog and then you can keep the pair you found and continue on with the game until all the cards are matched up, but we're still working on catching, so for now he will just launch and laugh. Of course Aiden had a hoot launching the frog into the air.

Leo was trying to get in on the game as well.

Game Play- July

Things have been pretty crazy lately and I seemed to have missed May and June for our game of the month. The sad part was that I had the games already in the basement. I just never got around to bringing then up. This game, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Silly Switch Game, I just happened to come across at Ocean State Job Lot. It's along the same idea/concept as Candy Land except its Mickey Mouse. The best part of the game is that it was only $3. I'll admit that the character pieces are pretty flimsy and may need some help in staying in one piece. (That is what packaging tape if for.) Either way it was a pretty simple game and Aiden mastered it fairly quickly. He was just super excited because it was something Mickey related. I'm sure Rebecca will go crazy once she sees it so I might have to hide it since she is obsessed with Mickey at the moment.

Yay!!! I won!! (for real)

April Game Play

The game of the month is Memory. Aiden is still too young to play the full game, but we can do smaller games with fewer cards to choose from. His favorite show at the moment is Octonauts on Disney Junior. That is fine and all except that its a British show so any Octonauts items that you want you have to find on eBay or on Amazon and you have to pay for the overseas shipping. I'm eying an octopod, but at $75+ shipping from England, that's not quite going to happen anytime soon.

Anyway, back to the game. I ended up adding it into Aiden's Easter Basket because of when I received the game. He was excited that he received and Octonauts item. Tonight we opened it up and he did pretty well with it. Like any child he tries to put his card back if he turns over a card he doesn't want, but I am teaching him that which ever card he turns over is what card he gets no matter what picture is on it.

Rebecca trying to take a turn too.

OMG!!! They match!!! I won!!

Game Play- February

I had mentioned before about wanting to start playing more board games.  Well today I picked up this game for us to play.

Sesame Street® Ernie® Lucky Ducks

Its Ernie's Lucky Ducks. The ducks are in a pond setting and you take turns pulling ducks. On the bottom of the duck in a colored shape and the object of the game is to collect all the ducks with your shape on it. Collect all three and you win.

"Mommy you bought a new game for me?"

Rebecca even wanted in on the action.

Stay tuned in March for the next game of the month.

Game Play

We don't play that many games in our house and I really wish we did. I think its a great tool for skill building and it teaches your child about fairness; that you can't win every time. Now that Aiden is getting bigger I'd like to start playing games more often. I may even pick up a new game every couple of weeks. Games are fun and I also think they are something great that you can do as a family. This past weekend we played Bingo and we tried Candy Land again. The first time that we tried to play candy Land Aiden didn't seem to really understand the concept, but now that it has been some time he understood the game well. He also likes to play Hungry Hippos and his Cars fishing game.

Aiden won the first round of Bingo and I won the second. He did win in Candy Land with, um a little help from me. We were pretty much tied and he pulled a card that sent him all the way back to the beginning so I kind of helped him get a card that would bring him back up to where my piece was. the rest he won on his own. Yes that does not teach him fairness, but he is still young and this summer he will start soccer so he can start learning more about that then. Besides, what parent doesn't let their children win?
