First Snow of the Season

How sad is it that we live in New England and half way through January is when we have our first real snow? We had a snow fall back in October and that was a disaster for a lot of people because there were still a lot of leaves on the trees and the snow that we did get was really heavy wet  snow. It broke limbs and people were without power for a few days in some areas. We are really lucky that we have a small electric company that services our area and some of the neighboring towns so when we lose power it generally comes back on really fast. Hurricane Irene, we lost power for about 45minutes. We actually only left the house because we were having cabin fever and needed to do something so we went bowling.

Anyway. We got about 4 inches of snow and we were only predicted to get a dusting to 2 inches. I was excited to see the snow. Heck I saw all the snow at 2am when Rebecca woke up from a lost binky. It was quite peaceful. Once Rebecca went down for her morning nap, I showered, got dressed and out we went to play in the snow. Got Aiden all bundled up in his snow pants, coat and his boots. Grabbed the shovel and the sled and out we went.

Afterwards we decided to make brownies.

Saturdays top five laughs

Its been a while since I have done one of these. I have been meaning to post about them, but during the week I have been forgetting to write down the thing that happen with Aiden and Rebecca and when I've tried to remember what was said or done I end up drawing a blank. Here are a few from this past week.

5. We recently put the baby gate back up in the kitchen door way because Rebecca has been a little sly thing as far as scooting as fast as she can over to the stairs her new favorite thing. As soon as she gets through the gate she makes a bee line to the stairs and if you are not fast enough she'll already be 2-3 steps up.

4. We went to an indoor play place the other day and I asked Aiden if he wanted a snack before we went since it was around snack time. He looked at me, scowled, and said "But Mommy I already ate a waffle!" yeah kid...2 hours ago...

3. Aiden has to sit in the middle of the couch when he is watching a show. I asked him to move over the other day so that I could also sit down and he said." Mommy I have to sit in the crack because I'm a cracky cracky."

2. I made smoothies the other night. Poured 2 cups, one for me and the other for Seth. Aiden sees my glass and says,"Mommy I'm going to share with you because I know I like that." "Ok do you want a sip? "mmm... It's yummy. it has yogurt in it." It's called a smoothie. "A smoovie? its soo smoooth."

1. Rebecca has a new move now. Its probably a precursor to her standing alone, but she looks so funny doing it.

Getting back to "normal"

Since Christmas 2010 our family room has been rearranged to, first make room for the Christmas tree and then once that was taken down the space was filled with all of Rebecca's gear. Bouncy seat, swing, playmat and a bin with some soft toys and books. The couch was pushed under the window and it was a little tighter walking by. The view of the tv was better because you were a little further away, but it still looked funny because the love and seat and couch did not make the typical "L" that they normally do in most set ups. Well Today I finally took down the tree and all the decorations while the kids were at daycare. I moved the love seat back to where it originally was. I brought the end table back up from the basement where it has been used as a storage rack for the past year and I can say that it looks so much better. I love that we have our family room back to normal. I just need to get a new lamp for the table.

Also in this we moved Aidens train table down to make room for the new play kitchen and the further opened up more floor space in the actual play corner so that area looks so much bigger as well. Though I am not quite sure what we are going to do in 5 weeks after Toys R Us yet again throws up in our house after Rebecca's birthday. There is going to be quite a large toy purge as that point and I need to find a space for her impending Pottery Barn Anywhere chair.

God I can't wait until we do a playroom in the basement next winter....

...then I get a nice little reading corner over here and I can finally unpack some of my books that are still boxed up in the basement.

Christmakkah Year!!!

Yeah that would be Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year in one phrase since I haven;t been able to get my butt in gear to keep up with posting. So this post is going to get kind of long since I have a lot of updating to do on the past few holidays.

CHRISTMAS
I will say that Christmas was really fun this year. Aiden was so into it this year and he knew that Santa was coming only if he was a good boy to bring him presents. Maybe next year or the one after that we will get into the real point of Christmas- the spirit of giving, togetherness, and caring.I'd like to do something next year to really give back. Maybe adopt a needy family with some of my friends. Honestly it makes me feel so good inside to know that I am helping someone that needs it. I only wish I could do more.
Anyways.. Christmas Eve- We were suppose to go to Edaville Railroad, but it was really cold outside and Rebecca was feeling a little off. Thought it was just her teeth, but a few days later I found out it was her ears. We went over a friends house instead to exchange gifts and let the boys play together.

 SANTA CAME!!!

Red Racecar movie!! Just what I wanted!!

HANUKKAH
Even though Hanukkah was technically over we waited to celebrate it when Seth's sister was in town. It was really rushed though because we basically had  2 hours to eat lunch, dessert, open presents before we had to head out to the Disney on Ice show.

NEW YEARS
We didn't do much on New Years Eve. Aiden had a birthday party to go to that morning, but other then that it was to have a day to slow down and relax since the week had been so crazy busy. We did end up taking the lights off the house because it was such a beautiful day out. Didn't know when we would get another one like it and neither Seth nor I wanted to do it in 20* weather. Plus we left the lights on the house until April last year and we found out that a bunch of the light sockets had rusted out and killed half of a few strands.

Before bedtime we played for a little bit in Rebecca's room. She's having a blast crawling around and I also think she liked it better being upstairs because there is only the gate at the top of the stairs so she can go back and forth between all the bedrooms at her whim. Down stairs she gets trapped in the family room and she can't stand it. Makes a bee line for the stairs as soon as she gets free. Scales them in like 2 minutes flat. It won't be long before she's really walking on her own.
