Run to the Rock 5K

So another race under my belt and this one I actually ran the whole thing. I have been working really hard lately with my training and while I did my first 5K Thanksgiving  and did a second one in March for St Patrick’s Day I didn’t really start focusing on training until the first week in July. I had tried the C25K app on my phone and it didn’t seem like it was working for me. Come to find out that our treadmill is not that great. I am pretty sure it’s at a slight incline from the way our house sits so that will make it difficult for me in running. I did find another app called Ease into 5K and I like this one much better. There are more intervals to help you gradually get into running if you are not a runner like I was. I’m still working on things, but it’s getting better.  Now that I have finally finished a race running the whole thing, I just have to start working on my time.

So we had a sitter come for the kids since the race was at 9am and both of us were running. Aiden was happy because we are currently using one of his old teachers that he really liked. Seth ran the 10K and I ran the 5K. The problem with that was that they started in 2 different locations so I had to drop off Seth and then I drove over to where my race started. We ended in the same place though. It was kind of warm out, but there was a nice sea breeze going through so it made the run better. There were to decent size hills that I will say I had not trained for, but I watched my pace and I was able to work through it all. Seth did really well with his time; beating his best by almost 3minutes. I was surprised to see him coming up to the finish when he did and had to scramble to go over and meet him. When we saw the race results we saw that he came in 4th place for his age group and missed 3rd by 7seconds. He would have gotten  a trophy and some sort of prize money as well. Something to remember for next year.

 My Medal for finishing.

The Consignment Haul...

....haul it all away!!!!

This is my second fall season for consignment sales. Last year I only did one sale because I didn't know about all the other sales in the area. I was pretty disappointed in how little I sold last year, but what I did sell covered what I bought for the kids for last year. So that wasn't too bad. This year going through my inventory since I chose to take all unsold items back and going through what the kids wore last year; it was a bit overwhelming at first once I started to pull the bins off the table in the basement. It was somewhat reassuring to know that half of the stuff was already ironed and hung up from last fall. But since I am doing 3 other sales as well I needed to upload all the inventory into each of the databases. Once that was all done I slowly started the ironing and hanging part. This is the most time consuming of the whole task, but once this part is done the only thing that I need to do for each subsequent sale is re-tag.

And this is this year's sale inventory. I had to go out and buy a shower curtain rod because I didn't have enough hanging space for everything. When it was all said and done, 276 hangers worth of clothing.( This also includes shoes that were able to be sold)

 Back of the clothes horse

 Front of the clothes horse

The shower curtain rod and on the far right there is a towel rack that has a few things on it as well.
Why yes I hanging clothes on our home gym!

It is quite a lot of clothes, but this also included all of Aiden's baby clothes that I held on to. I did give a bunch of things to Seth's sister as she just had baby boy a week ago and there were a number of things that went into the donate pile since I didn't deem them suitable to be sold. This past spring I sold about 75% of the items that I had so I am hoping that will be the case again. The kids are all set as far as winter clothing goes, but there might be a few things that I will look for like toys. The relief is that after this winter there will never be this amount of clothing to go through. From here on out it will just be one season to deal with and the linger leftovers from the previous years sale. Thank god!!!

Davis Farmland

At the beginning of the summer I bought a family voucher to Davis Farmland off one of these “deal a day” websites. It was up to 50% savings on tickets so I figured it would be great for a day trip out there with the kids. We had planned to go 2 different times, but each time that we had planned to go Rebecca ended up being sick. So finally we went this past weekend because it was the last weekend we could use the pass before it expired.

We headed out after breakfast and while normally an hour drive is not that bad, when you add in two kids it makes the drive seem that much longer. And I hate to say it, but I don’t see us heading back anytime soon. The kids did have a good time after they finally settled in. Rebecca started to get cranky because it was a long drive for her and she was starting to get tired and likewise with Aiden.  Once we got there it took the kids a little bit to open up to the fact that they could touch the animals with they wanted to. I will say that the favorite part for them was the splash park though. They could run through the sprinklers and water jets. I didn’t get a shot of it, but there was one moment when a water jet shut off on Rebecca. She leaned down to see where the water went and then a few seconds later it turned back on and she got shot in the face with the water. It was pretty funny and she just laughed at it. We stayed until about 1:30. Put the kids in dry clothes because I neglected to bring their swim suits. I did bring towels just in case, but didn’t think they would get as wet as they did. Good thing I keep extra clothes in the car. Aiden stayed up for the whole ride home, but Rebecca conked out within 5mins. It was short lived because she woke up after only 30mins and we tried to get her to finish her nap at home, but she was not having any of that so she ended up going to be around 6pm since she was so tired.  It was a good day all around though.

I did have 2 more photos that I was going to add in, but blogger is being stupid and keeps posting them in landscape orientation when they are in portrait. As shown above.

Friday Fun

So this didn't exactly take place on Friday. More like Labor Day, but good enough. We had a relaxing day after the busyness of the past 2 days. The Davis Farmland post will be coming soon. But Monday was all about errands and doing some much needed things around the house. Like laundry. We bought Aiden his first pair of soccer cleats. Hit up Old Navy for some new jeans for Seth and then it was off of Toys R Us because the car ramp that Aiden had gotten for his birthday up and died after only an hour of using it so while we waited until we got the receipt from Seth's parents we just went out to buy a new one until we could return the old one. And we also made a pit stop at the mall play area so the kids could blow off some steam as well.

September Game Play

Somehow I managed to miss August, but since Aiden’s birthday just passed and he received a few games we’re back on track for doing this every month for the rest of the year.

This month’s game is Pop Goes Froggio.

 Froggio!
shuffle your cards and lay them out.
 Set your animal.

 A match!!
 Launch Froggio!!

Basically you try match up the lily pad cards and once you do then you run over and launch Froggio into the air. Rinse and repeat. You're suppose to catch the frog and then you can keep the pair you found and continue on with the game until all the cards are matched up, but we're still working on catching, so for now he will just launch and laugh. Of course Aiden had a hoot launching the frog into the air.

Leo was trying to get in on the game as well.
